Thomas Dunn is an associate professor of communication studies in the College of Liberal Arts. He earned a B.S. in rhetoric and communication studies from the University of Richmond and Ph.D. in communication from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Dunn has been lauded in the field as an exemplary critic of modern rhetorical criticism, his primary research method. He is an acclaimed teacher, highly sought-after advisor of graduate students, a “teacher of teachers,” and exceptional servant of his department, college, and discipline. He was recognized with the “New Investigator Award” from the National Communication’s Critical/Cultural Studies Division in 2017, and received the Book of the Year Award from the National Communication Association’s GLBTQ Communication Studies Division in 2018 for his first book, Queerly Remembered: Rhetorics for Representing the GLBTQ Past.

As a Monfort Professor, Dr. Dunn will complete his in-progress book on the nearly 15,000 homosexual men who were sent to Nazi concentration camps across Europe during World War 2. He also plans to provide additional coursework and programming on the subject and fund an application to bring the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s travelling exhibit “Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933-1945” to campus.

Megan Schipanski

Megan Schipanski is an associate professor of soil and crop sciences in the College of Agricultural Sciences. She earned a B.A. in Biology from Oberlin College and a Ph.D. in horticulture from Cornell University.

Dr. Schipanski is an internationally recognized scientist and leader in the field of Agroecology – a key pillar of sustainable agriculture. She has influenced her field with highly cited papers and several high-profile addresses at international conferences. She is also one of the core investigators in a new National Science Foundation Interdisciplinary Training, Education and Research Program at CSU, and received a $1M Foundation for Food and Agricultural Research Grant which will be featured in a forthcoming article in Biosciences on urban agriculture.

As a Monfort Professor, Dr. Schipanski will work to understand the fundamental processes regulating water and nutrient cycles in agricultural systems from rhizosphere (the sphere closest to the plant roots) to field and landscape scales. She will advance research at the rhizosphere scale to unravel interactions between water, carbon and nitrogen cycling mediated by plant roots and the soil microbiome.
